Folding in the front wheel: Rotate
the handlebars clockwise far enough
that the handlebars and the front
wheel sit parallel to the frame.
Folding in the handlebars: loosen
the quick-release lever on the
handlebar stem, pull the handlebar
unit upwards from the tube,
and lay the handlebars down.

Swinging the rear sub-frame inwards:
lift the BERNDS-Gretel up by the saddle
and stand on the rear sub-frame, rear
axle nut or the luggage rack so that
the suspension unit comes loose from
the catch. Swing the rear sub-frame '
forwards until the rear wheel is resting
against the frame tube.

Removing the seatpost: loosen the
quick-release lever on the seatpost
and pull the seat tube upwards and
out.

Unfolding your BERNDS-Gretel is
done by reversing the sequence.

The next step reduces the size when
folded even further:
• optionally: to remove the front wheel:
loosen the clip immediately above
the front forks with a 6 mm Allen key
and pull the front wheel complete with
forks downwards and out of the tube.
Caution: the forks are still connected
to the handlebars via the Bowden cable
belonging to the front brake and
possibly via the electric wire from
the hub dynamo. Take care when
unfolding that the forks are pushed
completely into the head tube as far
as the end stop and that subsequently
the clip is closed hand tight!

The BERNDS-Gretel – simple and compact!

For all those who do indeed like a compact and easy-to-ride bike but who do not place great importance on the size when folded, we have built the Gretel.

The BERNDS-Gretel, too, possesses all the characteristics of the BERNDS family: the robust, easy-running 20" wheels, the sprung folding swingarm and the solid torsional stiffened, single-tube frame.

In favour of the extra-deep step-through we have forgone the design of a pure folding bike. All the same, the BERNDS-Gretel can still be carried in the car without the need for a bike rack.
